Italian bind off- set up rows?

Hello! I am making the Creme Cashmere Wool Topdown Collar Vest by Banul Story. The pattern says to finish the body by:

Work the rib for 18 rounds(all sizes).
When finished, bind off using the Italian bind-off technique.

Does this require set up rows before the Italian bind off? If so, are the set up rows after 18 rows of rib? Or should set up start after 16 rows?

Or can I go straight from rib into bind off with no set up rows?

Thank you!!

I think I learned this one from Suzanne Bryan’s video that I’m gonna link, but I also found a blog post that shows how to do it, which might be easier to follow than having to pause frequently. Suzanne recommends doing the last row on smaller needles (it works up a bit bulkier than the knit), but it will work either way and that can be a matter of taste. I definitely recommend practicing it on a swatch, it took me a bit of practice before getting the tension right and knowing when and how much to pull the thread tight :face_with_tongue:

What a great looking classic!
Italian bind off is one of my favorites and you need not work any set up rows. Just follow the pattern to work in rib for 18 rounds then start the bind off.

There are a few rules that help keep this on track so that you don’t have to undo it (very painful).
Always complete the set of steps before putting the project down if you need to interrupt the bind off.
When the step includes slipping the stitch off the needle be sure to do that right away.

Thank you for including the pattern information. Have fun finishing this vest and please let us see a photo when you finish!
