ISO: Magic Loop sock pattern

I have a sock pattern for ankle socks but it is written for 4dpns and well I really want to learn how to do them using the Magic Loop method. So if anyone knows how I can convert the pattern or knows where a ML sock pattern could be found Please help.

Thank you

Melanie

Any sock pattern can be done using ML. Just split up the stitches so you have an even number on both sides. If I find it’s a semi-complicated pattern, I place stitch markers where the other needles would be. For instance, I have one sock on needles doing ML…the pattern calls for needles 1 and 3 to have 28 stitches and needles 2 and 4 to have 14. So between stitches 28 and 29, I place a stitch marker, and just move it up a round each time I come to it again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Crafty_Me! If you are planning on using the Magic Loop method for socks, I highly recommend that you check out this great tutorial made by Silver for knitting 2 socks at the same time using the Magic Loop method (it’s a lot easier than it sounds, trust me!).

It’s loaded with pictures and clear, step-by-step instructions. I literally just finished a pair of socks for my dad using Silver’s tutorial. I had never knit a single sock in my life and had never used the Magic Loop mehtod yet I easily learned with Silver’s technique and tutorial. Check it out:

I read how to do ML from a book and love doing it. I have made a hat, leg warmers and an ice cream cuzie with the magic loop method.

However, when I watched the video on this site I found I was not doing it the way they showed.

I divide the stitches as if on three needles. and pull the cable from the two points and the needle out that I am working with. That way no stitches are pulled and it is the same as working with dpn.

Hope that makes sense.:???:

I make magic loop sox all the time. Here’s my tried and true "recipe"
http://danceswithwool.wordpress.com/2007/04/04/on-a-tear/

I found the easiest pattern for basic socks, even the heel is simple, i could absolutely hug the person who wrote the pattern here:
1 at a time
http://www.tostetoes.com/onesockoneneedletoeup.htm
or 2 at a time
http://www.webdesignsbybarb.com/tostetoes/twosocksoneneedletoeup.htm

my only problem is trying to alter any other patterns for variations. I’m too new to write my own, and this pattern is my first sock pattern…

:woohoo: OmGosh!!! this has saved me I am almost done my first sock!!! thankyou to all that helped me get this far!

I tried several times however am not able to access the above link you posted. I get an error message link not valid. I’d really love to have this iinfo as I’m a new sock knitter. Any other way I can access it that you know of?
 Thanks!

I can’t get to it either. This is an old thread so maybe it was taken down. Here’s one. I’ll see what else I can find, too.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for posting my sock pattern! If anyone wants to learn visually, I have posted my full two-at-a-time socks tutorial, which is a video e-book and I think the best way to learn knitting over the internet (duh, that’s why we’re on Knittinghelp.com!)

I hope you like it! It’s got videos of every single step, including reading your own work and troubleshooting.

Enjoy!
