Is this pattern YO K2 tog?

I have a scarf, and I would like to make a new one for a friend. (See pic)The pattern I have says yo k2 tog. I interpret this as a yarn over, knit 2 together. However, my knitting does not look like the attached picture. Mine doesn’t have the cool diagonal cables, it is more open. So I’m not sure if I’m doing it wrong, or if this is a different pattern.

How can I duplicate the look shown here?

You’re right, yarn over, knit 2 together. Here’s a sample of what it should look like. It does seem more open than the photo you showed.

I wonder if a variation on brioche like this might work?

Thank you!! I ripped mine out and started over bc I thought I wasn’t doing it correctly. Ack! I’ll look over the brioche stitch.
