# Is Pattern Wrong?

Help!!

Am knitting “Spanish Lace” pattern (The Knitting Dictionary & Ency. by Nomis. Pattern calls for a multiple of 34, with 24 rows to complete pattern…Rows 1,2 3 do not add up to 34…any suggestions? Is there something I am missing…or is pattern wrong? Thanks

1. *k3, k2tog, k4, m1, p2, (k2, yo, slip1, k1, psso) 3x’s
p2, m1, k4, slip1, k1, psso, repeat from *across row.
2. *p2, p2tog, p4, m1, p1, k2, (p2, m1, p2tog) 3x’s
k2, m1, p4, p2tog, p2, repeat from * across row.
3. k1, k2tog, k4, yo, k2, p2 (k2, yo, slip1, k1, psso) 3x’s
p2, k2, yo, k4, slip1, k1, psso repeat from
across.

row 1 has 31 stitches
row 2 has 33
row 3 has 33

It could be, but most likely you have an uneven number on different rows due to increases and decreases. The scarf I’m knitting is the same way. Why don’t you do a bit of it and see if the pattern comes out correctly. I

Tried that several times…besides the m1’s would show up on the next row and be decreased by the TOG’s.

By just knitting row one, there are still 3 stitches left over. My first thought was they omitted k3 for the last, then *, but that didn’t solve the subsequent rows. Unfortunately, the repeat for these three rows are for rows1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10,11. All the other rows, thru 24, do count to 34. Too bad, as this is a beautiful pattern. I have numerous knitting books, and have found nothing to come close to this one. Oh well…knitting goes on…

K when you get to the last row of your pattern, do you have the proper amount of stitches? If you do then it’s just something that has to do with the pattern and it’s not necessarily wrong. It’s just how the pattern works out.
So if on row 24 you have the stitches divisible by 34 then you are ok.

You might try to just start repeating the pattern for the rows that don’t have 34.

So on row 1, add k3 at the end; on row 2, add p1; row 3, add k1.

It might work out like fibrenut said.

Thanks, I will try that.

As I said the problem starts with row 1…casting on 34 still leaves three stitches unaccounted for, that’s why I thought to K3 those three at the end…thanks for the tip for row 2 & 3. Shame to waste such a nice pattern. ALL the other rows do count at 34…just not the first three(and there corresponding rows.) Again, thanks…

Just finsihed an enterlac pattern, so didn’t think I would have a hard time with this one…Who knew!!!

I have that stitch pattern in my Mon Tricot 1500 Stitch encyclopedia…according to it the pattern for these three rows should read like this (I put the corrections in red…on row 3 the Yo’s were shown as M1

1. *k3, k2tog, k4, m1, p2, (k2, yo, slip1, k1, psso) 3x’s
p2, m1, k4, slip1, k1, psso, k3, repeat from *across row.

2. *p2, p2togtbl, p4, m1, p1, k2, (p2, m1, p2tog) 3x’s
k2, p1, m1, p4, p2tog, p2, repeat from * across row.

3. k1, k2tog, k4, m1, k2, p2 (k2, m1, slip1, k1, psso) 3x’s
p2, k2, m1, k4, slip1, k1, psso, K1, repeat from
across.

On row 2 it says to work the p2tog through the back loop, but I guess that’s your decision.
Hope this helps.
