Hi Everyone!
I am buying a bunch of yarn for my mother-in-law who lives out of state. She wants to crochet some hats for friends and family. In the past, she has used Red Heart Super Saver, which I really don’t like (to me, it’s very scratchy). I bought her some Caron Simply Soft, which is really nice, however, Caron SS does not have any bright orange shades she is looking for. Caron One Pound, however, has a great shade of bright orange but I’m not sure how it measures up to Caron SS or how it compares to Red Heart Super Saver since I’ve never felt it. Has anyone used Caron One Pound? If so, please let me know what you think.
Is Caron One Pound acrylic yarn soft or scratchy?
Almost anything is nicer than RHSS! That stuff is awful and I won’t even use it for charity. Now the RH SOFT is very nice and much like Simply Soft. Like wool not all acrylic is created equal.
Simply Soft is of course one of the softer ones, but the One Pounder is pretty nice, too. If it’s the color you like then I think you’ll be okay with it.
The one pound isn’t quite as soft as SS, but much softer than RH, so go ahead with that.
I agree with Suzie. They’re much better than Red Heart Supersaver. That stuff is scratchy and doesn’t get any better with washing. I bought five skeins of One Pound last fall and knit with them all winter. I made hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves for myself, four people in my family, the neighbor, and charity mittens. I just used the last of it up in spring. It’s not the best yarn, but economical. You might also want to check out Knitpicks yarns. They’re very reasonable and I’m sure you’ll find just the right color she’s looking for. I especially like wool for winter wear because it stays warm even when wet.
I like Caron One Pound to make toys, baby blankets, random objects, but personally I am very particular about what I put next to my face/neck/head, so I wouldn’t use it for clothing items for myself, but probably would for others.
Caron Simply Soft still has a great bright orange…the actual color is much brighter than it looks on my computer. If you’ve seen the University of Tennessee (UT) Volunteer’s colors (not to be confused with UT, Texas, which is not at all bright), that’s what the color is. When I click the link I don’t see any orange.
:??
It’s called Mango, and you’re right…it certainly doesn’t LOOK like bright orange…but, I double checked my stash and that’s the one. If you see the lemonade, it’s really a very bright yellow, not what it looks like on the site.
When I checked my stash, I found another orange from Hobby Lobby, I Love This Yarn, Sportweight. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/i-love-this-yarn-sportweight-616169/. Not as soft as SS, but still soft.
Well, RH does get better with wash and dry, and the current version is lots softer to knit with than what it was 30 years ago. I wouldn’t not use it, but the one pound may suit the OP better.
