Is alpaca too itchy for a scarf?

I’ve never knitted with 100% alpaca. Is it itchy? I would think it could be.

I’ve never found it to be itchy…to me it’s really really soft…:happydance:

It depends. It depends on the person and the alpaca. Some is more scratchy than others (I think it has to do with guard hair??) Baby alpaca tends to be softer though.

I would reccomened either Blue Sky Alpaca’s Alpaca and Silk for something light and lacy, and not to mention luxurious, or Knitpicks Andean Treasure. It’s a baby alpaca and very, very soft.

I had found some Classic Elite Inca Alpaca in a color I love—wanted to make it into a scarf for my MIL. Problem is, it’s on the internet, so I can’t feel it :smiley:

I found the the misti alpaca bulky sheds like crazy. It’s very soft and yummy, but I wouldn’t want the fibers rubbing off on my coat!
