I am :XX: using the English method. I have five rows of stocking stitch. On my next row (purl) I have to purl 14 stitches, join a new color, purl 4 stitches, join another ball of the first color and purl the remaining 14 stitches. So I will now be using three separate balls of yarn. Intarsia right? My question is, when joining the two new balls of yarn to the sixth row, do I knot them so as not to have a hole?
Intarsia
There are ways to weave in the yarn before you get to the color change, but I’ve also read that you can knot them.
The main thing to prevent a hole is to make sure you hold the yarn you’re finished working with over to the left when you bring up the new color. Do this each time and the colors will twist and you won’t get a hole.
Here is a thread where I attempted to show how to catch the colors before the change if helps.
Thank you Ingird :happydance: I also found this http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_3117120,00.html site and over in the right sidebar there is a little video about adding a second color. Is that the way you were trying to explain it?
That hasn’t been the way I’ve done it, but I did recently see that in a magazine also. I’ve bookmarked it to refer other people to it since how to start the new color is such a common question.
Thanks!!
