Hello! I am trying to knit the Ingrid Sweater by PetiteKnit, and I am having trouble getting the leftover number stitches for the end of the short rows correct.
I cast on a certain amount and slip stitches onto one needles, purl stitches in the middle (leaving the same # of stitches I slipped at the beginning on the end). Turn, work in pattern, but knit a few more stitches every time until there’s only some leftover that haven’t been worked. I’ve tried it several times, and my number of leftover stitches is always too much. I don’t know what i’m doing wrong, I would super-duper really appreciate help!
Ingrid Sweater
Hi there. I have this pattern. I was going to start on it and I don’t know if I can be of much help but I’ll have a look at pattern this afternoon and see if I can figure it out for you. Can you tell me what page of the pattern you are on thanks, Jules
Welcome to KH!
It may be the method you’re using for the short row turn. Different techniques turn on the last stitch worked or the next stitch. Which method are you using for the short row turns?
Jools, thanks for looking at the pattern. That will certainly help.
Hello! Thanks so much for responding!
It’s on the bottom of page 3 to the top of page 4. I’m thinking that maybe I have to work rows 1 and 2 8 times each (16 rows) as opposed to a total of 8 times (8 rows)?
Hi! Thank you!
I’m using the German short row technique, PetiteKnit has a video tutorial of it, so I don’t think that is the problem
You can post a few rows from the pattern here, that could help figure out what you need to know. Does the pattern specify using GSR or something else?
I have to do some turn of rows 1 and 2 which are in double moss stitch and short rows, the technique she uses in her video is the German short row technique, but I guess you can just use whatever short row technique works for you? I was using the German short rows like she showed in the video.
Yes, German short rows are fine and as long as they’re recommended by the pattern that’s an even better reason to use them.
If you could quote just the instructions for the short rows, as Grumpy Grandma mentioned, we can likely figure out how many rows you should be working. Just the short rows please. We can’t post large portions of patterns here due to designer copyright.
Okay, I’m just worried about the designer copyright, I don’t want to post anything I shouldn’t.
The instructions for the short rows is to slip 42, p 32 (leaving another 42 unworked sts at the end), turn, row 1 it k1 p1 until there’s 38 sts remaining, turn, row 2 is the same thing. Work rows 1 and 2 (working 4 sts after the turn) 8 times until there’s 6 sts remaining.
OK, that means there are 16 rows after the initial row 1 & 2 or 8 more repeats of rows 1 & 2. Each time you work 4sts past the last turn. If you’d like, it may help to mark off groups of 4sts on each side. You’ll end with 6sts unworked at each end.
Oh lovely! Thank you for explaining that
Hi there WillBug, Sorry for the delay getting back, I’m in Australia but I see Salmonmac has come to the rescue and I’m sure that is right Just reading the pattern and it does sound confusing but I will be trying this on a swatch first. I’m sure it will work out well for you , petite knits patterns are pretty spot on. Jools
