My pattern is Wild Herring Mitts. The increases are LLI and RLI. I want to enjoy this pattern but I’m knitting with black and white and I’m having trouble finding the left leg of the stitch 2 rows below using black yarn. They are just increases. So my question is, can I use my “normal” increase left and increase right technique?
I’m going to answer my own question because the answer just came to me. The LLI and RLI are beside each other and I’d have to pick up the same strand of yarn if I used m1l and m1r, probably creating a hole.
This might sound obvious but have you tried laying a very light fabric on your lap whilst you work with the dark yarn? I discovered i can work much more easily with black yarn if i do this, i keep an old baby muslin square in my knitting drawer for just this job.
I think this is your pattern.
I really like it. I think you’re correct that sticking with the increases the pattern says to use is the best idea. I wonder if kfb and mirror kfb might be an acceptable substitute but I rather doubt it.
I tried that, but it didn’t work. I also moved my knitting light closer. What did improve a bit was wearing my magnifying glasses. Thanks for your suggestion.
I’ll give kfb a try. Thanks for the suggestion
You might try knit front, slip back rather than kfb. The kfb makes a knit and a purl bump. The knit front slip back makes 2 knits, it’s a bit smoother looking on stockinette.
I forgot the link in case you aren’t familiar with this mirror kfb.
