Increases - too many stitches

Hi, this is my first post. I’ve recently picked up knitting again and I’m hoping I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew!

I’m knitting a jacket for my son. The pattern says:

cast on 85 sts
Next row = P1, (K1, P1) 4 times, inc once in each of next 3 sts, *(P1, K1) twice, P1, inc once in each of next 3 sts, rep from * to last 9 sts, (P1, K1) 4 times, P1 …112sts

What I did was 9sts in P1, K1, P1 then pfb, kfb, pfb, K1, P1, pfb, kfb, pfb, K1, P1 and so on until the last 9 sts. However I ended up with over 120 sts and I’m not quite sure how.

Am I reading the pattern correctly? I’m trying to work it out and I’m just getting more confused!

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
You’re almost there:
P1,k1 over the first 9sts, (ending with a p1),then kfb, pfb, kfb.
The repeat is p1k1, p1k1, p1, kfb, pfb, kfb.
