Hello
This is for the hat pattern Drops 47-9.
I am not clear in how the increases work out.
Start with 3 stitches, inc 1 stitch every other row 10 times making 10 increases but I know this isn’t right as the stitch count goes up to 23.
Here’s the pattern instruction
Earflaps: Cast on 3 sts on needle size 3.5 mm with green mix and knit garter sts. Inc 1 st each side on every other row a total of 9-9-10 (10-11-11) times - on right side: knit 2 sts in first st, on left side: knit 2 sts in last st = 21-21-23 (23-25-25) sts
As I read this you’re increasing 2 sts every other row which, if my feeble attempt at math is correct, works out to 1 st increased for every row knit. If so then the counts should be correct.
Could you share a link to the pattern please? I can’t find it.

Thanks for replying.
Each side, every other row could well be every row.
It has a thing about right side and left side, I’m assuming this relates to the right ear flap and the left ear flap. It’s making a point about where to place the stitches for left and right which makes sense for symmetry but then I don’t understand this if it’s every row. Perhaps just my head not grasping the logic of it.
Perhaps it will make more sense on the needles, if I do both at once, mark the RS of the work and do the increases as described, maybe it will all just work.
The increases are every other row. In this case the increases are on every RS row, one inc at the beginning of the row and one at the end. Your idea of putting a marker on the RS is a good one. It will be a good reminder.

Thank you.
So do you think “each side” is each end?
And “right side” and “left side” does not refer to which ear flap but just to a single ear flap and means beginning of row and end of row?
One increase at the beginning of the row and one at the end of the row. That’ll work and is one of the usual set ups for earflaps. Good luck with them. They will be adorable with the hat!
