How do I maintain a stitch pattern while increasing at each end? In particular, my sweater pattern states to increase 1 at each end when knitting a diagonal rib pattern. Won’t this throw the pattern off? When do I add the increase? (All the directions I can find only give examples using garter or stockinette stitch where the stitch remains the same across a row.)
Try putting markers at the start/end of the pattern repeats already completed at each edge. Do your increases on the outside of the markers in stockinette, and when you have another full pattern repeat, you can switch back to the pattern and move the marker. Does that make sense?
BTW, welcome to knitting help! :cheering:
