Incorporating Increase Stitches into Cable

Hi everyone

I’m a new member  I would say my skill level in knitting is somewhere between amateur and intermediate…

I’m currently knitting the Folklore Cardigan by Lion Brand and for the life in me, cannot make sense of the sleeve instructions!

Here’s what it says:

*Begin Pattern
Row 1 (Set-Up Row – RS): K1, work Row 1 of Moss St over 0 (2, 4) sts, work Row 1 of Wide Left Cable over next 10 sts, work Row 1 of Narrow Left Cable over next 4 sts, work Row 1 of Center Cable over next 14 sts, work Row 1 of Narrow Left Cable over next 4 sts, work Row 1 of Wide Left Cable over next 10 sts, work Row 1 of Moss St over 0 (2, 4) sts, k1.
Keeping first and last st in Garter st for selvedges, work in patterns as established for 5 rows.

Shape Sleeve
Row 1 (Increase Row – RS): K1, work in Moss St as established over next 0 (2, 4) sts, M1, work in patterns as established to last st, M1, work in Moss St as established over next 0 (2, 4) sts, k1 – 46 (50, 54) sts.
Keeping first and last st in Garter st for selvedges, work in patterns as established AND rep Increase Row every 6th row 9 (7, 5) more times, then every 4th row 6 (10, 16) times.
Incorporate increased sts into patterns as follows:
Work first set of increases (6 sts) in Left Cable, second set of increases (4 sts) in Narrow Left Cable, third set of increases (6 sts) in Left Cable, then work any rem increased sts in Moss St – 76 (84, 96) sts.
Keeping first and last st in Garter st for selvedges, work even in patterns as established until piece measures about 18 (18, 19) in. (45.5 (45.5, 48.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.*

I don’t understand the latter half of the instructions when it says to “incorporate the increased stitches to x cable” especially when there’s no mention of a Left Cable in the previous set of instruction before it!

Please help so I can stop having sleepless nights thinking how to tackle this haha

Welcome to the forum!

Not an easy pattern to take on but your knitting looks beautiful.
The sleeve is shaped by increases near the beginning and end of row. You could work all the increases into the moss stitch pattern at each end but the pattern wants you to work extra cables with the inc sts.

When you have enough increase sts (6sts), start working in a new Left Cable pattern in those 6 sts. As you continue increasing and have 4 more increased sts, work them as a new Narrow Left Cable. When you have an additional 6sts, work those increased sts in a new Left Cable pattern. (Left Cable is given at the beginning under Pattern Stitches.) You’ll do these extra cables at each end of the sleeve.

After you’ve added these new cables to the sleeve, work the increase sts as Moss stitch.

Hi thank you so much for your response!
I think I’m starting to understand it a little but I guess we’ll see how many times I have to re-do it haha  appreciate your help!

You’ve done well so far. I have a feeling that this will become clear once you start increasing. You have to work those increased sts in some pattern. Why not more cables? So the pattern is recommending the cable patterns to use.
