Inc... every following 6th row?

Just want to make sure I’m reading this right. My sleeve instructions say,

“proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 6th row to 54 (76-74-74)…”

Does this mean… I increase (M1L, M1R) on the first row (a knit row) then again on rows 7, 13, 19 and so on? So that row 7 will be a knit row and I’ll increase on that one but also count that row as row number 1 toward the next increase?

I hope that’s right. Am I making sense? (I think it’s the word “following” in the instructions that’s confusing me.)

Thanks!!

trying to remember how to knit… :??

That’s how I would read it.

Following can be confusing, it just means the rows that come after. You can mentally drop the word when you read a pattern like this, and think of it as “inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every 6th row after that”.

Yep, you have it figured right.

Thank you so very much! I tend to over-think the written word at times. Nice to have firm clarification from you, Sue.
