I would like to make something for grandma for Mothers Day. She just turned 90 and still lives alone and drives and all that. Very with it, if you know what I mean. Anyway, she knits but mainly knits dishcloths and slippers nowadays.
I was thinking of making her a clapotis but I am not sure…and the whole yarn choice has thrown me because I want nice light pastels that are not $31 a skein.
I’m open to any pattern ideas. Or yarn recs for the clap.
I think that a shawl is a great idea; and a clapotis is fun, fun, fun to knit! A felted bag is also a wonderful idea! Or a spring/summer lacey scarf would be nice, too.
If I were you, I would just go to her house and knit with her! The memories you make knitting together will be more meaningful than an item you make for her. She probably has lots of interesting stories you haven’t heard yet. She might even have some knitting patterns stashed away that you could look at together! A lot of those vintage designs are in style again.
good idea red…your grandmother probably would enjoy knitting with you
I am currently working on a shawl for my grandmother’s birthday (April 5th) and it is somewhat lacy–feather and fan sort of–but not difficult at all! It’s a lion brand pattern and the link is in my signature. Here’s a pic of what it looks like so far since the picture on lion brand’s site is pretty yucky…mine isn’t great but it shows more detail… Hope this helps.
This scarf is lacy & easily knit…and certainly isn’t ‘old’ looking !! You can find LOTS of patterns @ www.knittingpatterncentral.com Have fun :happydance: :happydance:
