At crochet. :-/
I’ve been trying to get past a basic granny square for over a year. Every time I try to hook a single crochet etc blanket, it goes wrong, wrong…wrong.

I’ve been trying to get past a basic granny square for over a year. Every time I try to hook a single crochet etc blanket, it goes wrong, wrong…wrong.
What goes wrong? Do you know?
You’ll get it! It is just like knitting you have to have patience and practice.
It looks…ugly. it starts to curl and the edges look weird.
I can chain, single crochet, make a shell…I have a couple of books with amazing, beautiful squares etc I want to make but… I’m not that advanced. sigh
I’ve not crocheted for a couple years now but as I recall there does tend to be a curl to the fabric. Neater ends to rows and nicer edges comes with practice and guess what! You can add a border and hide it! I almost always added a border even if it was just sc to even things out and make it look better.

All mine.
Your third link didn’t work. The other three are nice.
I never liked putting squares together so I never actually made a granny square afghan. You’re ahead of me there!
You made those? They look great if you did
I have been crocheting for 30 years now and I still hate putting together squares. I use the diagonal stitch for blankets.

The pattern use to be free.
I use the same stitch for wash cloths.
That’s pretty. They’re charging for that pattern? Ridiculous!

I’m intensely interested in Tunisian crochet! I saved a pattern for a potholder:
Then you can try this Entrelac Crochet Blanket Part 1. You can do it with an ordinary crochet hook. I did.
The bag here was done in Tunisian.
Try crochetcabana.com She has great tutorials.
Here are links to some video and picture tutorials on different types of granny squares and how to join them. I hope they help you!

Try a Granny stripe. This is done back and forth rather than in the round.
I didn’t know much about crocheting either until I started doing Youtube video projects. My favorite teachers are Bethintx1, bobwilson123, hectanooga1, thecrochetgeek, and mikeyssmail (The Crochet Crowd). Just put their screen names in the search box and their projects will come up.
Learning how to do this pattern on yolandasotolopez’s YouTube channel
Very nice and you’re doing very well!
I decided to test drive my new Denise hooks. Love 'em!
Hang in there - in about a year from now you’ll be amazed at what you’ll be able to do. Keep trying, don’t let that stupid hook defeat you! lol
Agree with HeathersHobbies, need patience and practice.
