im knitting a scarf, and ran out of yarn, how to i connect my new yarn to the old? just tie it in a knot?
help!!!
thanks!!!
Most do not recommend tying a knot in the yarn because during wear it will work through and show making a project not seem as neat as possible.
The most common way to join a new yarn is to stop knitting at the end of a row with the old one and start the next row with the new one then weaving in all ends.
There are also ways to connect yarns such as a “Russian join” or a “Spit Splice/Felted Join” which you can find under the …more videos in Basic Techniques.
Hope this helps!
If I am knitting with wool, I just fray the ends of the old and new yarn, wet them, and then rub it between my hands until it felts together. If I am using a man made fiber yarn, when I am ready to add the new yarn, just knit a few stitches holding both strands together, and then weave in the ends when I am done. Check out Amy’s videos about this, they are very helpful.
I knot and tuck the ends in so they don’t show. They don’t come undone and you can’t tell where they are. I don’t like knitting with both yarn ends because the stitches are too bulky.
