I am knitting my dog a turtleneck sweater. This is what part of the pattern says: “Measure your pet’s neck. I usually use a size 5 or 6 needle for a tightly knit ribbing, but not too tight!” I was regularly ribbing for about 4 inches then I realized that I had not been knitting it tight. Since the sweater is a turtleneck, I think they want you to rib tight so that it curls up. The thing is, I am not a tight knitter. I hate knitting tight! So is it okay to knit it regularly? Is it required that I rib tight? Does the tension have to be tight? I am in desperate need of help! Thanks for reading this!
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It’s 1) for a dog and 2) the pattern is not written in stone. Even if you knit a tight ribbing, I don’t think it would curl up, anyway.
I wouldn’t rib it tight. Your dog wouldn’t like it. A turtleneck doesn’t curl up because of the way it’s knitted. You fold it to suit yourself. When it comes to kids and dogs, anything knitted tight is liable to cause you problems getting them dressed.
