So, I’m knitting a dog sweater and I get to this part of the pattern
Shape back: Cast off 6 (7-9-12-13) sts beg of next 2rows. 51 (63-71-105-135) sts.
Next row:Sl1. K1. psso. Pat to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Next row:Work even in pat.
Rep last 2 rows to 33 (43-49-73-93) sts.
I have 41 stitches and I need to get to 33.
But if I keep decreasing on each side, I’d start cutting into the cables on the left side.
I have 2 more stitches on the right side that I’m supposed to be decreasing. As far as I can tell, I have the correct amount of stitches, they just seem to be in the wrong place.
Here’s the pattern. I’m doing the smallest size. https://www.yarnspirations.com/patons-biscuits-bones-dog-coat/PAK0713-008497M.html
So, I think I fixed it. I just kept going in the pattern and on the last decrease row I did both on one side instead of one on each end of the needle. But now the sides are uneven and it looks a bit wonky. I noticed that the area around the leg holes is different on each side, so I think I did something wrong on the left one that left me with fewer stitches on that side than I should have had.
Oh. I was trying to follow my pattern as closely as possible while also trying to even the stitches. It said to decrease one stitch at the beginning and end of every other row.
For two of the decrease rows on the right side, decrease 2 sts. Don’t make them on succeeding rows, space them out by several rows. It’s not a perfect solution but it’ll even out the pattern and be less noticeable. You can use a k3tog or a slip one, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over depending on how you worked the decrease on that edge.
I actually finished the dog sweater already. I just decreased two stitches instead of one on the right side of the last decrease row. That seemed to fix it. You can actually barely notice the unevenness.
