I-cords

Hello there! This is my very first post!

I have a question about the I-CORD. I have a pattern (lil devil hat) that says to ā€œcast on a stitch at either side of I-cordā€. Can someone please explain this to me? I’m stumped.

Thank you so much!
Happy Knitting!!

Where is this Icord?

It’s at this site: http://knitting.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.kittyville.com/knit/devil_hat.html

It hangs below the earflap of the hat. Here’s the pattern instruction:

Devil tail ends: Cast on 1 stitch at either side of I-cord (5 sts). Knit 2 rows, reduce 1 stitch each end (3 sts). Knit 2 rows, k2 tog, k1, turn, k2 tog (1 st). Break off yarn. Draw end through last stitch, pull firmly, Draw end up through I-cord to hide. Repeat for other side.

Thanks for any help!

I get it. What a neat hat! Welcome, by the way!

I would cast on at the end of the row, work back across that stitch and the stitches already on the needle and then cast on another at the end. They won’t be lined up exactly, but I’m not sure how to cast on before stitches without a gap.

Thanks Ingrid for all your help. I will try this!
