I’m coming to the end of my Stephen West “Resplendence” shawl, and wonder if there’s a way to increase/decrease while doing the I-cord bind-off? I’d like to emphasize the zig-zag edge, but the pattern only indicates a normal I-cord.
And a minor annoyance–the pattern is 2 rows of garter chevrons, repeated 7 or more times, depending on how many colors you have, but then it says “Bind off all stitches on the next WS row…”, so I’m now trying to decide if I stop the last color after only 1 row, or if I need to knit an extra row so I’m ready for a WS row. Or if I should just bind off on the RS…
Note that the bind off will be in the Suri alpaca, so will somewhat obscure the last row!
Can you knit twice into one of the edge sts to make the points in the zig zag. The way you turn a corner on blanket edging by knitting a couple of times into the corner stitch. (Is that a zig or a zag?)
For the inner V perhaps you could knit into 2 sts at the inner point of the V? I haven’t tried this but working a small swatch would give you the look of the stitches.
Another row more seems to be a personal choice. Do you prefer one side of your i-cord to the other? That might help you decide whether to bind off RS or WS.
This is from a ravelry knitter, does it offer another option?
It says to bind off on a WS row but after the MC stripes you end with a RS row next so I did a RS row in CC first

What salmonmac said for the bind off to maintain zigzag. If knitting 2x in the same stitche isn’t satisfactory you can try an unconnected I cord short row or one on each side of a single stitch worked into the point. I’d try binding off the first few stitches on the WS and see how it looks. If I didn’t like it I’d take out the bound off stitches and work another row. Unless there’s a specific reason for binding off on a WS row I wouldn’t worry about it. For me it’s about what works for me on a specific problem/issue/project. Nobody knows your knitting better than you so you’re best suited to make the call.

Oh, working a row or two of I-cord without binding off anything at the points seems like a good idea.
I sense a swatch in my future.

Yes, I could do that. I’ve had to order more of my CC anyway, so I’ll have more than enough.

Oh, duh! The I-cord is worked with the contrast yarn, so I could simply slip the shawl to the opposite end of my (60"!!) cables and bind off on the WS from there!
