I-cord as part of an afghan

I just started the Arabesque Blanket from Laughing Hens and Manos Del Uruguay. There are I-cords worked into the pattern. I understand how to knit the I-cord but don’t understand how to start it in the row. Here are the instructions:

Make i-cord lengths when indicated: With CC, k3, slip 3 sts from RH ndl to LH ndi. With MC pick up and k3 sts from the loops at the back of the CC sts, leaving them on RH ndl. With DPN and CC, pull the CC strand firmly along the back of the work and k3 from CC sts on LH ndl. Cont with CC,

Welcome to the forum!

This is the basic i-cord that you know with the addition of the replacement of the 3sts used for the i-cord by 3 picked up sts in the main color (MC).

Work with the MC until you get to the place for the i-cord then drop the MC. Using the contrasting color (CC) knit 3sts onto the righthand needle then slip them back purlwise to the left needle. Pick up the MC again and pick up and knit 3sts from the purl bumps at the back of the CC. You can use your righthand needle to do this or if necessary use a crochet hook to pull a loop of the MC through each purl bump and place it on the righthand needle repeating 3 times

Now back to the CC sts which are sitting on the left needle. Work the usual i-cord in the CC by pulling the yarn strand across the 3sts in CC to knit them. Continue to work the i-cord.

There’s also a Facebook group for this lovely blanket that may have some tips or photos to help out with this technique. There’s a link on the Ravelry page.

Thank you so much. I wish the pattern had of said “pearl bumps” instead of “back loop”. Easy Peasy now!
