How to

Hi, I’m new here, and very computer illiterate. Please bare with me. I’ve starting knitting again after having surgery on my hand a year ago. But stuck in this one pattern, any help would be appreciated. My pattern states. Collar: I already have 161 stitches on circular needle. It says proceed as follows: Row 1 {WS}: K1,*p1,k1; rep to end (got this done). Row 2: Rib 91 stitches turn, Row 3: Sl 1, ribs 32 stitches, turn, Row 4: Sl 1, ribs 34 stitches, turn. increasing the stitches by 4 stitches for all the next 21 rows IE ribs 36, rib, 40, etc., etc., I’ve never done this before and definitely need help!!!

Hi, does it ask you to knit this on a circular needle or have you chose this for ease? If you are not required to join the circle of cast on you are knitting flat. If this is the case you just follow it row by row. If not, no idea :bulb:

Yes, I have it on a circular needle.

Welcome to the forum!
These are instructions for short rows. Since it’s a rib pattern all you need to do is work the rib pattern for the given number of sts, then turn as you would at the end of a row and follow the directions for the following row. Don’t worry about sts remaining on the left needle after the turn. You’ll get to them eventually. Also, you won’t have to think about any of the methods for closing up the small hole created by the turn. Since this is ribbing, that won’t be so much of a problem.

What is the name of your pattern?

My pattern is Kertzer cable vest

The short rows will give you the shawl collar, more rows at the back of the collar in order to raise it up a bit. Very nice.

Thank you.

I just finished it. I’m must have been overthinking the pattern, I followed what you said and it’s perfect. I can’t thank you enough.
