I need to test some yarn to see whether it has nylon in it, or whether it is pure wool.
I wasn’t sure how to test a blend. I found this very helpful blog post:
My yarn is typical sock wool, labelled as a wool and nylon blend, but it has felted. Obviously it wasn’t treated to be machine washable, but I am also wondering whether the nylon was forgotten. If so, I can use it up in felted slippers.
Thank you for the link. I’d never heard of the bleach test which sounds much more definitive than the burn test.
Good that you have a plan for your yarn with perhaps, felted slippers in its future.
I haven’t been able to try the test yet. I only had a drop of bleach left in the bottle when I went to the cupboard. I don’t use it very often and hadn’t realised it had run out!
Will report back when I have a new supply of bleach.
