How to read a knitting graph

So Im making these “cotton” dish clothes for my mother in law.

I have a pattern to spell out our last name B E L L E , I know that is enough, 5 cloths total.

But I want to make one more with a Dressage horse on it for her.

I have a graph pattern, just dotted up to form a shape of a horse and rider. BUT I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

How do I read this thing?

:??  :wall:

It depends on the technique you want to use to knit it.

I think the same way you would read any chart.
The filled in spaces would be purls, and the blanks would be knits…or vice versa!

Imma give this a try, Im going to start off small and work my way up. And thank you!
