It’s my first time knitting here, when I cast on it’s so tight I’m actually struggling to stitch is there anyway I can do to make the cast on not too tight when I’m knitting.
Welcome to the forum!
There are various tips for resolving this. It would help to know which method of casting on you are using so that we can give you some specific tips for that method. Do you know the name of the cast on, long tail cast on, knitted cast on, cable cast on, something else?
In some ways the cast on and the first few rows of a project are harder than the rest, it probably takes a bit more practise to become comfortable and maintain a good tension with the cast on so don’t be discouraged by it.
Welcome to KH. The most important thing is to relax your grip on needles and yarn and don’t pull the stitches tight. Spacing the loops on the needle by holding your index finger tip between the last stitch and the new one can help a lot. And don’t pull the yarn tight. I agree that knowing which cast on you’re using would help a lot. That and don’t pull the yarn tight. The stitches should slide easily on the needle. Practice is important too. Did I mention, don’t pull the yarn tight?
Some knitters cast on using a larger needle then switch to the smaller one for knitting. IME that can help but it can also mean a sloppy cast on edge. Personally I’d consider it OK for a while but learning how to cast on appropriately is IMHO the best solution. Yes, I’ve been there, done that,
I don’t know if anyone has said this, but be careful not to pull your stitches too tight!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. But really, that’s a lot of it. There’s a sense in the beginning that everything is loose and not anchored and it’s going to get away from you…but it won’t. Relax. Shake your hands out and try again.
It would help to know how you’re casting on, or maybe you can look up some different ways. The absolute easiest cast on (e-loop) is the absolutely hardest to work into, as it pulls and stretches and isn’t stable.
The knitted cast on might be a good choice–since you put the other needle through each stitch as you add it, it’s much harder to pull it too tight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzVy8fRfOw0
The long tail cast on gives a good edge. The trick to making it loose enough is stitch spacing rather than needle size.
