Hey so i found this instruction for this stitch on a knitting machine. since i do not have one but absolutely love the pattern, i am looking for instructions on how to hand knit it instead.
It may be a stitch pattern for machines that doesnāt have an easy crossover to hand knitting. @MK_er @Beth_Leatherman @Phyl1knit2
Can you help back translate from machine to hand knitting for this stitch?
You might try this hand knitting chart from the same designer
I didnāt read it all and the stitch looks a bit different, but perhaps a further search of her posts may reveal something.
It reminds me of a sweater roxanne richardson made, her project to make vintage patterns, it was just knit and purl zig zags but the resulting fabric was very three dimensional, not flat at all, quite beautiful.
Depending how attached you are to the exact pattern, you might be interested in hand knit patterns available for similar spiked fabric such as this one
I found something similar, I think in Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida. Not exactly that configuration but the sections were that kind of shape. I have two Japanese stitch books so Iāll see if I can find them and check.
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! just purchased it and canāt wait to start knitting
Do you know if thereās a video instruction out there somewhere? I am still struggling understanding written instructions since this is my first time experimenting with a pattern other than left & right
Happy to be able to help. Sometimes people want the exact thing they are asking for, sometimes a similar item is just the ticket. Glad it turned out to be something you wanted. There is a spikey hat pattern available on ravelry too.
I donāt know of a video tutorial (some designers have their tutorial only available to people who pay for the pattern so there may be something in the pattern about it although there is no mention of it on ravelry) but reading the notes it seems not all that hard if you are comfortable with magic loop.
The designer has given their email address if you need to question something (on the ravelry oage, jot it down on thepattern if its not printed there), and you can always type out a line or two of the pattern here to get help.
Knitting is great for always having new things to learn! I would DEFINITELY be making a practice swatch! Not necessarily in the yarn you want to use for the sweater, but something easy to work with, in a large enough size that you can see what the stitches are doing. Maybe a worsted or Aran weight. Or even make a scarf using the stitch pattern!
Once you have the stitch down, you should make a gauge swatch in the correct yarn, to be certain the sweater will fit.
