How to knit seafoam stitch on my project?

hey fellow knitters!

just joined the community since i am a new knitter (started around a year ago)

now i am working on a top, i have knitted some rows and got 36 stitches. now at this point i want to change to the seafoam stitch but i am having trouble understanding how to do the pattern in order to have a nice symmetrical outcome…

i attached a photo so you can see what i am working on. i watched a youtube tutorial but had to redo it so many times i am loosing my mind now…

the instructions say: ROW 3: K6, * YO TWICE, K1, YO THREE TIMES, K1, YO FOUR TIMES, K1, YO THREE TIMES, K1, YO TWICE, K6, REPEAT FROM * TO END OF ROW (ABBREVIATIONS: “YO” MEANS “YARN OVER”; “K” MEANS "KNIT’’”)

i tried and i always ended up with an uneven, weird number on the other side i was working towards :frowning:

i would be very grateful for someone to help me out here, love the look of the seafoam stitch & it would be a shame if i were to give up on it …

thank you!! xo

Are you trying to repeat the seafoam stitch either side of the center line or do you want it to straddle the center line? It does tend to look messy until you’ve worked a few rows past the yarn over drop row.

When you say other side, do you mean the wrong side or the other side of the center?

The Seafoam Stitch takes a multiple of 10+6. You would need to have that many stitches on either side of your center spine (16, 26, 36, etc.).

It may be difficult to do this stitch while increasing, because even if the row you start it on has the correct number, the following rows will end somewhere in the middle of the stitch, due to the increases. For example, the 2nd repeat of the pattern would have the tallest drop stitch right on your center line, so you couldn’t do any increases there.

I’ve learned that not every knitter with a camera makes good videos! If one is confusing, look for another, and another, until one of them makes sense. Then make a note of that presenter for future use!
