How to Knit Dutch Heel with odd number of stitches?

Hello, I’m using This Sock Pattern , and I’ve gotten to the heel turn for making a Dutch heel. I’m using an odd number of stitches (19) because that’s what the pattern says to do, but I’m having a problem where the bottom of the heel keeps turning out like this >

The side where I purl 2 together is connected, but the other side isn’t? I’m sure it’s not supposed to be like that? I’ve looked up multiple videos, but I’m still having trouble getting it into one piece? I’ve redone this about 3 times now, and can’t seem to get it, what should I do?

Thanks.

It does not matter if you have an even or odd number of stitches for the heel flap. The general principle for turning a Dutch Heel works regardless. Rather than following exactly the numbers in the pattern, you could do it like this:

Divide the flap into 3 sections using two markers. Later when you get more experience you will notice markers are actually not needed but use them this time. Your pattern got 6 stitches in the middle section but any number could go there. The important thing is that the two side sections are equally sized and if you got an odd number of stitches then make the middle section the odd one. Normally it is okay to use approximately 1/3 of the stitches for the middle section.

Knit to the first marker, slip it, knit to the second marker, slip it, do SSK.
Turn work, slip first stitch and marker, purl the middle stitches all the way to the next marker. When reaching that marker slip it and do a P2Tog.
Turn work, slip first stitch and marker, knit the middle stitches all the way to the next marker, slip the marker and do a SSK.

Continue like this working the middle stitches and doing P2Tog on wrong side and SSK on right side before turning the work, always slipping the first stitch after a turn. When you do the SSK with the last two stitches do not turn the work to purl but continue to work in the rounds by picking up the gusset stitches according to the instructions. Then continue around the instep, pick up the other sides gusset stitches and then right before the marker you close the last hole by doing a K2tog. The markers can be removed.

(For all types av heel flap socks, to avoid holes in the corner where gusset meets instep, I work together one instep stitch with one picked up gusset stitch on both sides: K2tog when starting instep and SSK when quitting instep.)
