How to knit a decent icord with cotton yarn?

I do know how to knit an icord with DPNs. In this case I’m using 3 stitches. My problem is that the row of stitches shows that the stitch where the last and first come together is always bigger than the others! I’m a pretty tight knitter, so I don’t know why this is happening! Maybe it is because cotton yarn doesn’t stretch? Help Please!

Certainly the cotton yarn is making it more difficult to get an even i-cord and knitting tightly is also contributing.
The cotton may loosen up a bit when washed which should even the i-cord out. You might also try going up a needle size. That’ll put more yarn into the sts and may ease the sts once washed.

As Salmonmac recommends changing your needle size helps.
I think knitting an icord with DPNs is easier than using straight needles because you don’t have to slip the stitches back to the left needle you just place the right needle with the stitches in your left hand and you are ready to start the next row.
My Tips: Make sure your yarn is “snug” across the back and for the first stitch. Knitting the last stitch through the back loop can give it a nice twist and help the tension a little. Good luck.

Thank you, ladies  To Salmonmac, larger needles and knitting loosely seems counter-intuitive, but I will try that!
And to flknit5, I like your tip about knitting the last stitch through the back loop. It seems like that twist will help!
Thank you both for responding to my question! Getting help when I need it is invaluable!
