I’m relatively new to knitting in the round and completely a self-taught knitter and I just do not understand how to join this pattern. When I cast on, I only use one needle, so I’m not sure what it means by “working yarn from right needle?”
If someone can help me, I’d really appreciate it.
A circular needle still has 2 tips, one held in the L hand, one held in the R. So you hold the sts with the working yarn in the R hand, and the other sts are spread out to the L tip. If they don’t reach that far, about halfway around pull out some of the cord to make a loop and push the 2 sets of sts toward the tips so you can easily knit from them.
The pattern says DPN not circular needles. Do I need circular needles? Also, how would I use circulars with only 15 stitches?
You can use the magic loop method that’s shown on the Advanced Techniques page to use a circular with just a few stitches. There’s also a video for knitting with dpns, and for working with 2 needles.
Which method you use is up to you. If you already have dpns you can use them. It’s like knitting on straight needles in that you have sts on the left and knit to the right needle, the other ones are just used to hold the sts until you work around to them.
