I just finished my first Felted Bag and want to insert zipper in top for closure… Is there anyone who might give me some instructions as to what kind of zipper and how to do it? Would so appreciate it…

I did a search and found a little info. I copy and pasted the quote below from this source. Hopefully someone else can come up with more info.
pin in place, and using overcast stitch and sewing thread, sew
bottom edge of zipper to felt, taking a good bite of the
felt with the needle but not poking through to the other
side. Unzip zipper before sewing upper edge (otherwise
you won’t be able to unzip it), then pin it so the teeth lie
side by side and sew this edge down. When zipper is securely
sewn, use sharp pointed scissors to cut felt evenly
along zipper’s midline. Place pocket lining over zipper
(still working on the inside of the bag) so it just covers
top of zipper, and securely sew lining edges to bag with
an overcast stitch. If necessary, trim lining to fit bag better;
it will not unravel since it is felted.
Thank you Jan for your repsonse…When you talk about bottom edge, I think you mean the outer edge and sew in place with zipper open. Not sure what yiu mean about cutting along midline… I have sewn other items and so I have put zippers in before but somehow this I could not figure this one out…I am going to shop for lining this coming week… How far down should the zipper be sewn in… one inch from top or right at top… Mybag is the Vintage Bubble Bag and it came out beautiful…

I haven’t tried it myself so I can’t answer your questions. I think a zipper would be a great idea though. That’s the only thing I don’t like about the felted bags is they are too open.
That being said it sounds to me like you basted the zipper to the opening and sew it on. :shrug:
Well Jan, I will give it a try and let you know how it goes… a great web site for Notions of this kind is:www.ghees.com… check it out…
