Hi, I am a self taught knitter who recently became a grandmother . I am knitting a baby jacket from Stylecraft- 4108. ](upload://8qdlQ4o9G9wOR2npgwaKYZVD8jt.jpeg)
I was able to get to row 5 of the sleeve after the instructions specify to continue in eyelet pattern as given for body, placing this as follows⌠there are 5 rows. But increasing on 5th row alters the pattern and I am not sure how to calculate the following increases it asks for on every 8 following rows . Do I repeat the 5 rows or do I revert back to the eyelet pattern that starts on the 25th row for the Body? If I repeat the 5 rows the pattern does not alternate or space out the holes properly. I hope my questions make sense?
I appreciate any guidance. Thank you.
Welcome and congratulations on the lovely new grandbaby!
Use the pattern as given for the body so that you complete the tree shape and spacing of the motifs across the row and up the columns of the pattern. The increases at each end need to be accounted for so you canât just follow the initial knit sts given in the pattern rows. Youâll have to add a stitch each time at the beginning of the row. (The increases at the end of row are always easier to work.)
After the second increase row youâll have 2 sts before the eyelet pattern to account for.
The important thing is not to let the eyelet pattern jog over. Keep it aligned with the previous rows. Thereâs that strong center column in each âtreeâ that you want to maintain as a column.
Work the increases at each end of rows 5,13,21 for the first size. If youâre making the second size, add on row 29. Thatâs every 8th row until you reach the total stitch number given for the size youâre making.
I find it easiest to set up a table with the absolute row numbers (e.g. 1-37) in one column and the pattern repeat rows in a second column (e.g. of 1-24)
Already a Maple Leafs fan, could it get any better!
Hi iâm still confused on the sleeve pattern, I have knitted the first 5 rows of the leaf pattern, so know do i know revert back to original pattern ie 25-40 on body pattern?
Please help
Yes, that sounds right. If you compare the last 5 rows of the eyelet pattern (rows 33 to 40) they look the same as the 5 rows on the sleeve which you have just completed. I am scrolling up and down checking, it will be easier on paper to compare the two side by side. So, this is as though you began the repeat pattern towards the end, row 33, and worked to row 40. Now you start the repeat pattern again, which is a 16 row repeat but is labeled as rows 25 to 40 eyelet pattern.
Row 6 of your sleeve is row 25 of the eyelet pattern (or row 1 if you rename them 1 to 16) and you are working an additional 27 or 35 rows depending on size.
Sleeve row 6
Eyelet row 25
When you get to row 40 on the eyelet pattern start again at row 25
When you make your chart or list dont forget the increase rows.
After completing the 6 rows of the eyelet pattern repeat the eyelet pattern rows 25-40 (the 16 row pattern).
There are two things to be aware of:
you need to take the increases into account in the pattern at the beginning and end of row. So you wonât be able to follow precisely the stitch numbers before and after the pattern repeat. Youâll be adding one stitch each side to those numbers.
Make sure that the eyelet pattern is placed so that it doesnât jog over or misalign from the earlier rows. This easiest way to follow the pattern is by looking at your knitting in the rows below. Follow the line of the eyelet spine up to make sure youâve placed the eyelet pattern correctly.
