How to embroider a train on stockinette?

Hi,
I just finished, except for sewing on the buttons and blocking, a Debbie Bliss cowl neck shaped cardigan baby sweater from Baby Knits.
I would like to embroider a small train or animal on the front left or right side. I have seen how people just follow the stockinette stitch and “draw” a design with other yarn or thread. I can’t free hand draw. Does anyone have a site I can go to to help with this or any ideas?
I would show a picture of the sweater, but I just got the digital camera and have been too busy knitting :knitting: to learn how to send pictures!:help:

Once you find an image you like…perhaps something like this:

you could print it out, place it against window with tracing paper. Outline the various areas of the image to show where the diff colors are. You could then baste the paper directly onto the knitted fabric and embroider thru it but for more stability, esp if the image is of any size, you might want to transfer the lines to a stabilizing fabric (such as a thin interfacing) and embroider thru that. If you baste the paper image to the RS you could put a small amt of stabilizing fabric on the WS. Your embroidery will lock it in place.

If you have a cartoon that you want to add and it’s on your computer (or if you can find one) go to a site called Knitpro, it can change the image into a chart! Or if a paper image, you can add a grid over the top to use, either cross stitch it or duplicate stitch (if the latter, make sure you use a graph with rectangles not squares).

That the words I was looking for…“duplicate stitch”. That is what I meant to say. I’ve never done it before. Maybe I can try something with the graph paper.
