How to do repeats when BOR becomes reg marker?

I am making the oslo hat by petite knit (again). I have knit this hat two times before and I always have this question and finally am not too impatient to pause and ask for expert advice!

When it’s time for decreases, you set them up by placing a marker every 27 stitches (you have 108 total and are of course knitting in the round). The pattern says you now have four markers total so I’m assuming the BOR marker becomes the last marker.

The decrease round is:

Knit to 2 sts before marker, slip 1 stitch, k1, pass slipped stitch over, slip marker, k1, k2tog, repeat from * to * to end of round (8 sts have been decreased).*

However, if the BOR marker is a marker, I’m not doing a k2og for that first section until…the following round. Or am I reading this incorrectly? Should I just begin every round with slip BOR, k1, k2og ? So the decrease round becomes:

slip BOR, k1, k2og, * Knit to 2 sts before marker, slip 1 stitch, k1, pass slipped stitch over, slip marker, k1, k2tog*, repeat from * to * to end of round (8 sts have been decreased).*

That’s it. The round should begin with a slip BOR marker, k1, k2tog and continue just as you outlined.
Great looking hat. Thanks for the link!

Are there 4 markers total or 4 markers plus the BOR (i.e. 5 total markers)? I’m assuming BOR is one of the 4 which commonly seen in hats and raglan sweaters

I believe the BOR has to be part of the four. Before decreases, there was one marker (BOR) and after placing markers for decreases, the pattern says “there are four total markers”

Yes, that’s not unusual but good to be sure. So 8sts decreased one on each side of the markers starting with a slip the BOR marker and a k1, k2tog.
