I am going to knit a Drops pattern and would like to add some short rows to raise the back neck. I am not sure how to calculate how long each short row should be. I am knitting size M and will be casting on 90 stitches. Should I add the short rows in the 3x2 ribbing or in the next section where there are 10 rows of garter stitch. ( I think it is garter - knit one row purl one row).
How do I figure out how many stitches each short row should be? Is there a formula for that?
The short rows should be added to the garter stitch section. You’re correct that it’s knit one round, purl one round.
Here a nice guide to the kind of short rows to work for top down. Lengthening short rows will work.
This video is helpful too although there are no numbers. That may be a matter of trial and error. You can look up similar gauge patterns with short row shaping however and use the numbers there as a guide. Basically you are the designer here and it’s whatever you would like as far as neck shaping goes.

Thank you. I will watch the videos and do do some swatches. The only short rows I have knit were with the Japanese technique - I will try German and the wrap and turn.
