I’m knitting a golf club cover for my dad and the pattern says to add a second strand of yarn? what does that mean?
Are you changing colors? If you can link to the pattern or give us a few rows–not the whole pattern-- it would help others to help you. Lucky dad!
its at the end of the part that says “ribbing all three sizes”
After you have the ribbing done with one strand of yarn, you add the 2nd strand and knit with the yarn doubled to make it thicker. Later you switch to the contrast color and use it doubled too. Just lay the 2nd strand alongside the first one leaving a tail on it, and knit the doubled yarn as if it was just one strand.
does that mean i need a second ball of yarn of that color? is there a way i can do it by using the same ball of yarn?
Do you have an actual ball or is it a skein? If you can find the other end of the skein or have a centerpull ball, you can use both ends.
its a ball of yarn. so i can just use the other end of the yarn to add the second strand??
Yes, as long as you can get to the other end of the yarn, you can pull from that end and use that as your second strand. What a nice gift for a golfer Dad!
thanks! i hope he likes it
