How many stitches for a new born baby hat

Hi, my friend is having a baby soon and would like me to knit them a hat and I’m unsure on the amount of stitches I would need as I keep getting told very different numbers when searching it.

The pattern I use is knitted in DK yarn and has 64 stitches. It’s free on Ravelry and called basic candystripe baby hat.

Darling hat!

Here’s also a chart for various yarn weights and sizes (see about halfway down the page).

Thank youuu, just didn’t want to make it too big x

Ooo that looks like such a nice hat will definitely have to do that, thank youuu for the help x

The number of stitches needed for knitting a baby hat can vary depending on the yarn weight, needle size, and desired hat size. Generally, a newborn-sized hat might require around 64 to 72 stitches, while a larger baby hat could need 72 to 80 stitches. Consider using a knitting pattern for accuracy.
