Cut your yarn, leaving a couple feet or more. Thread the end into a darning needle (with a blunt tip) and pull that through the stitches on your knitting needle. Then pull snug like a drawstring, and sew up the back of the hat. Look here and scroll down to finishing for how to seam.

omg, i still don’t get it!!! what do you mean by pulling the darning needle through the stitches??? when i thread the yarn through a darning needle, do i thread it like a regular needle with two strings equal length??? which sides do i start??? the end with the cut yarn, or the other end??? to pull, do i slip the darning needle under a stitch, pull it out of the knitting needle and what??? this is so confusing :??
Bye the way, i find a good illustration for seamming for those of you who are having the same trouble…

You have some stitches left on your needle, right? Use the working yarn that you’ve been knitting with, cut it like Sue said, and thread that on a needle. Put the needle through the actual stitches that are on the needle and let them off the needle and onto your threading yarn.
When all of the stitches are on the yarn, pull tight like a drawstring.
well i am working on a cicular needle and yes, all my 96 stitches are on there.
but i still don’t get it see message above

If you still have 96 stitches on the needle, you have decrease rows to do before you fasten off the top of the hat.
You probably need to get down to around 20 stitches or less before you’re done.
sue
but the instuction says:
HAT
Cast on 128 sts.
Rows 1-6: Work in k1, p1 Rib.
Row 7 (RS): *2/2 LC, k 4; rep from * across.
Row 8: Purl.
Row 9: *K 4, 2/2 LC; rep from * across.
Row 10: Purl.
Rows 11-18: Rep Rows 7-10 twice.
Rows 19-22: Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS).
Row 23: *K 8, 8/8 RC; rep from * to last 8 sts, k 8.
Row 24-46: Work in St st.
Row 47: Rep Row 23.
Rows 48-50: Work in St st.
Row 51: *K2, k2tog; rep from * across- 96 sts.
Rows 52-54: Work in St st.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, pull together tightly and fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew back seam. Weave in ends.
so i started out with 128 sts and got down to 96 sts, and i am having problem from “cut yarn” to “weave in ends”, i tried looking up on the internet but nobody seems to have the direction to how to do it:(
:?? It looks to me like there are decrease rows missing. Is it tall enough to fit on someone’s head?
Where is the pattern from? Sometimes looking at a picture or the pattern will help. I’ve never seen a hat that closes the top with 96 stitches, though I suppose it’s possible. I just think you’ll get a big hole.
lol, it from here:
It does look a little bunched at the top–maybe you should try it.
You’re having trouble with:
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, pull together tightly and fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew back seam. Weave in ends.
Do that exactly. Cut the yarn, leave a coupla feet or so. Then take the loose end through each of the stitches still on your needle. Doesn’t matter how you do it, you can use a crochet hook if you have one, or stuff it through with your fingers. When they’re all threaded, pull up like a drawstring, then use mattress stitch as shown in the Finishing link I gave you above, to sew up the back seam.

I wonder could the problem be where you are working on a circular needle? The pattern calls for straight needles.
Debbie
If she’s knitting flat on circs, it doesn’t matter, same procedure. If she’s knitting in the round on circs, then she can skip the seam up the back.

I Got It!!! I finally got it, and it’s all done!!! Thanks for your help guys, you guys are great!!! Thanks a lot:)
