How do you M2?

I am trying to knit a heart embossed dishcloth from the smariek.blogspot.

The pattern calls for a M2:

  1. K1-b (leaving stitch on the left needle) I understand this.
  2. K1 into front of the same stitch. I think I understand this. After completing the stitch, move to right needle.
  3. Now insert your left needle point behind the vertical strand that runs downward from between the 2 stitches just made, and K1-b into this strand to make the 3rd stitch of the group. I am totally lost here! Can anyone help???

Actually, it’s not the same as a M1.

After you do the two stitches, pull down on your knitting and you’ll see that there is a strand that is vertical between and a bit below the two stitches you just made. Put your left needle tip into it and lift it up, then knit into the back of it.

I just did this on something (I honestly can’t remember what) and I think I had trouble knitting into the back of it, but it looked fine if I knit into the front.

I’m wanting to knit a baby poncho, I don’t understand doing the M2 it said K into front and back of first st, then M2 in the strand between the last st on RH nedle and the next st (k into back, then front of that strand); cont to k into front and back of each st across row to last st; M2 in next strand between last st and next st, then k into front and back of last st. At end of next RS row, there will be 2 more sts. Pattern stitch: Row 1 (RS): K into front and back of each st across (doubling amount of sts). Row 2: K2tog, *p2tog; rep from * across Row 3: Rep Row1. Row 4: P2tog, *k2tog, p2tog; rep from * across. Rep Rows 1-4 for pat st. I someone can help me figture out the M2 please?

For this you want to knit in the front and then into the back of the next st on the left hand needle and then slip the st off the left hand needle (see the video in the Glossary tab for k1 f&b).
Next you want to pick up the strand that connects the sts on the right hand needle to the left hand needle (it’s actually the strand in the row below). Pick it up and put it onto the left hand needle and knit into the back and front of that strand. That’s M2. The directions continue with more kfb across the row ending with a M2 and kfb.
