Umm, I was puttin my needle through the second stitch, but in front of the left needle instead of behind it. I must have done it a dozen times, but didn’t realize. My mentor saw it immediately. I had to laugh at myself b/c I’ve been knitting for a year! Pretty silly that I didn’t “remember” how to do a regular knit stitch!
So the correct way to do a “right twist” stitch is:
- knit the second stitch (putting the right needle into the stitch and behind the left needle, which is the way you would normally do it!). Don’t slip the stitch off of the left needle yet.
- knit the first stitch as you would normally knit.
- Slip both stitches off the left needle and onto the right needle.
Notes:
- The stitches will be very tight and you may drop them at first.
- The stiches will look a bit twisted/on top of each other on the right needle.
- I did this on circular needles and needed several rows before I could see the pattern. Until then it just looked a bit wonky and I thought I was doing it wrong.
HTH someone.
