How do you attach ribbon ties to a knitted sweater?

Ok, I completed this very cute baby sweater and bought the ribbon, but cannot figure out how to attach it to the knitting. Help!!!

I just used a matching thread and sewed it on [I]very[/I] carefully.

Fold one raw end under and, as Jan says, sew it carefully in place with small hand stitches. Cut the other end on the diagonal to keep is from raveling or turn it under 1/4" under and make a tiny hem.

If the knit stitches are loose enough, you can poke one end of the ribbon through and sew it to the inside for a very clean finish.
