How Do I Make An Eyelet Hole For I-Cord

I am so new to knitting and have only started 2 days ago. I am working on stitches needed for a pair of pants for my baby and have mastered the ribbing but can not figure out how to add the holes for the i-cord. Please help

Eyelets are really simple. If you are working in st st, on the RS row where you want your eyelet, bring the yarn foward (abbreviated YF or also known as YO- yarn over) like you were going to do a purl stitch, then knit the next two stitches together. On the next row purl all the stitches including the new loop that you made. Eyelets are usually always followed by a decrease otherwise you end up with an extra stitch in the row. But by decreasing right after forming that new loop you keep the stitch count the same.

Hope that helps.

If the eyelets are actually ocurring within the ribbing then you need to change how you perform your YO depending if you are coming from a P to a K or a K to a P.

Here’s an article that explains how to do it:

One thing to note about the article, she doesn’t include the decrease after, so on the last step of each instruction when she says to knit or purl the next stitch, you’ll want K2tog or SSK instead.
