How do I continue to a second roll of yarn?

I’m a new knitter. I’m addicted to finishing my 1st scarf.
I bought 2 rolls of yarn and I’ve just used up the 1st roll. My scarf isn’t long enough. How do I go from the 1st roll of yarn to the 2nd?
Please help
Thank you!

stick your right hand needle in as if to knit… instead of wrapping the old yarn around the needle use the new yarn and knit as usual then you are done… you can weave in the ends later…

Just start knitting with the end of the new skein. You can tie a loose knot if you wish and rearrange it later.

Thanks guys!

So just start knitting with the new roll. That’s easy enough.

But how do i go back and fix the loose end to make it look nice?

There are videos on how to do this right on the website. If you have 100% wool (not washable) or alpaca, you can do a feltable join, also known as a spit slice, which is faster and easier than weaving in ends.

To answer your question, you’d just weave in the ends with a needle when you’re done. Try it on a sample first and experiment. There is a video too that I think will show you how to weave them in.

The first row or two might be a little loose, but won’t pull out and if you leave a couple inches of tail, just pull on it to tighten when they get loose. Then after you’re done, pull the ends into adjacent stitches, that’s all weaving in is.

I’m trying this for the first time. I used to do a double knot but that seems to be a bad idea becaus it could pop through. So I’m trying half of a double knot. And BE SURE to do it in the side seam so when you sew the end with a tapestry needle at the end, no one can see them. I’d leave about 2 inches to sew into the stitches at the end.:knitting:

I make knots in the middle of the row and they never show on the other side. I knit at a fairly big gauge too.

I pick up the new yarn and knit about 3 stitches with both yarns, unless the yarn is such that it would be really noticeable.

I just learned this too! I went to a yarn shop here that I stop in 2 or 3 times per week, usually to buy MORE stuff, and have the owner show me whatever I’m stuck on. She showed me this morning to just knit with the new color…it seemed so easy and (in hindsight) obvious, that I was almost embarrassed! :figureditout:But knitting isn’t the easiest skill, so I just keep asking questions (even if they’re not ‘smart’ ones). Hey, you gotta ask! :aww:

I do the same as losnana. I don’t like knots so I knit about a half dozen stitches using both old yarn and new leaving tails on both to be worked in after. The next row remember that those stitches were worked with 2 strands so you don’t accidently end up knitting both strands separately. It ends up being more invisible for me regardless of the diameter of the yarn used.
