How do I "Cast on at beginning of row"

Pattern says to cast on 4 sts at beginning of row, knit remaining sts. Do I cast them on the left needle and then move them over to the right needle, then continue to knit?

At the beginning of the row, your sts will all be on the L needle. Use the knit or cable CO with the st at the tip in place of a slip knot. Now knit the new sts, then the old ones.

Thank you. So that means I should knit the stitches that are added along with the rest of the row? I thought it meant to add 4 sts and knit remaining sts. I’m still a little confused since I’m new to this. I’m going to check out the instructions for using the knit or cable CO as you suggested.

You add the sts, but your yarn is at the tip of the needle where you put the last CO stitch. So you have to knit them to in order to get to the original sts. A knit cast on is knitting into the first st on the needle, leave the st on and put the new st on the L needle too. Then repeat. For the cable cast on, insert the R needle between the first 2 sts on the L needle, wrap the yarn and put the new st on the L needle and repeat.
