How do I cast on an extra stitch middle of row?

Hi guys. Knitting my first cardigan and need help again.

I’m knitting the front right of this pattern:

http://www.sirdar.co.uk/designs/children/cardigansChildren/9905

It says

Shape Neck
Next row (buttonhole row). K3, cast off 1 st, knit to end. I’m okay with that.

Then it says

Next row. purl to last 3 sts, cast on 1 st, p3

So, how do I cast on that 1 stitch please?

LL

The easiest way to do this is a backward loop cast on. This sounds like a small buttonhole.

This tutorial shows the way it might look mid row:

You’ll be casting on the extra stitch onto the needle that has the workng yarn hanging off the tip, then continue working the row. On the next row, you’ll knit that cast on stitch.

Thanks Salmonmac. I’ll check out those videos tomorrow.
