Hi folks, I’m new to posting here so I apologize if I got it wrong.
I’m knitting a hat for a friend whose head circumference is a bit bigger than most patterns provide sizing for (23.5") so I’ll need to adjust the pattern for him by about an inch or two, or use a different one.
The chart provided, if i’m reading right, is worked over 27 rows and 30 stitches. Is there a good method to make sure the pattern stays symmetrical on whatever hat pattern I’ll need to use?
I tried searching the topic but all I get are ‘how to read the charts’ listings. Must be wording it wrong.
Hi and welcome!
Have you tried knitting a swatch in pattern? You might be able to work the hat on a size larger needle and make it large enough that way.
You may also be able to add a stitch between motifs depending on the pattern.
What is the name of your pattern?
If there’s ribbing around the forehead, don’t bother adding st. You’re using a smaller ndl on the ribbing anyway. If you make earflaps, the dotted pattern is easier than the llamas.
She recommends 9" ndls, but you can also use 1 16" ndl, which Is what I use on all my hats. At the top, as it tapers, I switch to a longer ndl for Magic Loop.
