Home Improvements

This past week we had our bathroom remodeled, partially. Bathtub converted to walk in shower, and new toilet installed. What were your experiences about having any part of your house remodeled, painted, or carpeted?

Around January, we had several new windows installed, and 2 new doors. The new doors are not like the old ones we had, which were solid wood. The windows took a couple of days, and they chipped the paint on the sides of the walls, but that was remedied. Next, we had professional house painters paint 3 interior rooms, and 2 of those rooms had had the new windows installed. I enjoyed choosing colors, and the end result is excellent.

Finally, here in July, after my surgery was finished and I felt healed enough to put up with the bathroom being remodeled, we had the bathroom remodeled by a company with a BBB rating of A+. (That is where I look for any home improvement projects.)

The painters were Certa Pro, and the windows and doors were done by a local company which has been in business for over 20 years. You don’t stay in business that long if you are a bad company.

The bathoom was done by a local company which has in-house employees, everything from installing granite countertops to plumbing, to kitchens, to bathrooms.

The bathroom, oh my, day one, that was called “demolition day”. SO NOISY, so much mess, but the workers worked quickly, did not sit around and waste time. By the way, in my opinion, the commercials which say “new bathroom in as little as 2 days”, I think that’s sometimes a bait and switch tactic. (A plumber did say that the bathrooms done in one day, that use some kind of plastic sheeting to cover the floor under the new tub or shower is a very bad thing, it usually ends up leaking, causing mold and rot, etc.)

I took several photos of before and after, and the finished product is very nice. We had it done because of our advancing age, and it was getting unsafe for me to step over the bathtub to enter the shower.

What remodeling projects have you had done, and did you run into problems, and did the company you did business with do a good job, that you are happy with? The only thing I disliked about all of these was, signing the final papers. I would have preferred to wait a while, but, that was not an option.

Good to hear that surgery is over and you are on the mend. You have my admiration for facing up to renovations at any time. We’ve just finished a kitchen remodel followed by replacement of all the plumbing pipes in the house. So happy to see that in the rear view mirror!
Now enjoy the remodel and the fresh paint.
