What is the name of this waistcoat pattern and the name of the designer please?
You’ll be binding off at the beginning of WS (wrong side or private side) rows.
Row 1 bind off 5sts
Row 3 bind off 4sts
Row 5 bind off 3sts
Row 7 bind off 3sts
Row 9 bind off 2sts
Row 11 bind off 1stitch
Row 13 bind off 1stitch
There is a very neat way to bind off and prevent a stairstep look to the edge if you’d like to use it.
It’ll be a very similar bind off for the Neck. Bind off at the beginning of a RS (right side or public side) row.
Row 1 bind off 4sts
Row 3 bind off 3sts
Row 5 bind off 2sts
Row 7 bind off 2sts
Row 9 bind off 1stitch
Row 11 bind off 1stitch
Then bind off one stitch at the beginning of rows 15,19,23,27 and 31.
Thank you so much for your quick reply, that’s amazing! I can now see what I’m meant to do
. I will also try your method of binding off (casting off in UK), I have a lot to learn.
The pattern is called Adele but can’t see who the designer is.
It’s in a DMC pattern book.
Nice pattern, I like the asymmetry.
I’m in the UK too, there are members all over the world on this lovely forum.
Very good-looking vest! Thanks for asking about it and have fun with the knit.
Im afraid I now have problems with the neck and armhole shaping. Managed the first shaping thanks to your advice but have now reached this part which is very confusing for me.
Would be very grateful for your help.

These directions are often confusing. Mark off the center 16sts which will be bound off on row 1.
For the shoulder and neck binds off at the same time,
Row 1, Bind of 4sts at the beginning of the row and work to the center 16sts, Bind off those 16sts. (When you finish this bind off you’ll need to use one stitch past the 2nd marker but that’s ok.)
From now on you can work both shoulders at the same time with 2 balls of yarn. After the bind off of the center 16sts, work to the end of the row and turn. On the next row, bind off the 4 shoulder sts (this is shoulder two) and work to the neck edge. Drop the yarn strand and pick up a new end of yarn. Bind off 7sts at the neck edge of shoulder one and work to the end of the row.
Turn and bind off 4 sts then work to the neck edge of shoulder one. Drop the yarn strand and pick up the strand attached to shoulder 2. Bind off 7sts then work to the end of the row. Turn and bind off 4sts, work to the neck edge, drop the yarn strand and pick up the yarn attached to shoulder one. Bind off 6sts and work to the end of the row. Turn and bind off 4sts, work to the end of the row then bind off 6sts at the neck edge of shoulder two. Work to the end of row and turn then bind off 4sts at the beginning of the row.
Almost there! The neck bind offs are done.
Work to the end of shoulder two, work across shoulder one and turn. Bind off 4sts, work across shoulder one and two then turn and bind off 4sts at the shoulder edge of shoulder two.
It sometimes helps to make a diagram of these bind offs and then cross them off as you work them. It helps keep them straight and keep you on track.
I am so delighted with your response, I would surely have abandoned this project without your help, many thanks!
I’m so glad that you’ll be completing this vest. It’s going to be lovely.
I thought I’d cracked it, managed neck and armhole as you described ![]()
Now I’m perplexed as instructions for right front neck and shoulder have groups in brackets, are these different sizes? I’m Medium which is second size.
I have 17 stitches before starting these instructions. Sorry to bother you again,
Forever grateful
LinC
For your size (first size in the brackets) it reads as
Bind off for the shoulder 4 × 4 sts every alt row
The instruction for your size ends with the colon : and the next size comes after the colon.
Does that help? Or still confused?
How simple when you know how
Many thanks again.
