Herringbone- invisible seam for chunky knitting

Hi everyone, I have just joined this knitting forum and am really impressed with the site setup and all the videos, tips etc available! I am hoping that I may be able to help out at some point with any questions and will be having a further look around soon.

I have recently completed a 3 piece panel throw in chunky herringbone but am having a really difficult time joining the pieces together. I am quite an experienced knitter and have been able to use invisible seam mattress stitch many times on garments which have used just the normal type of yarn, but with this pattern and the size of the stitches, everything looks really straggly and even with pulling got sides out to look for the horizontal bars I am just in a complete muddle! Has anyone ever located any videos that might be able to help with this at all, I can’t find any:( Any help much appreciated, thank you in advance

Welcome to the forum!
Herringbone stitch is beautiful and not easy to get right. I wonder if a Bickford seam would be easier to work.
